Doctorat en physiologie \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 de Campinas (UNICAMP) \u00e0 Sao Paulo, Br\u00e9sil, suivi d'\u00e9tudes postdoctorales au Whitehead Institute du MIT, Cambridge-MA.<\/p>\n

Qu'est-ce qui vous a amen\u00e9 \u00e0 suivre une carri\u00e8re dans la recherche et \u00e0 \u00e9tudier la dystrophie musculaire en particulier ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Je voulais devenir scientifique depuis mon plus jeune \u00e2ge. Tout au long de ma carri\u00e8re, ma principale motivation a \u00e9t\u00e9 le d\u00e9sir d'avoir un impact sur la vie des gens gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 nos recherches.<\/p>\n

Quels sont les sujets que vous \u00e9tudiez ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le principal sujet de recherche de notre laboratoire est le d\u00e9veloppement de th\u00e9rapies \u00e0 base de cellules souches pour les dystrophies musculaires, ce qui inclut une meilleure compr\u00e9hension de la signature mol\u00e9culaire des prog\u00e9niteurs myog\u00e9niques d\u00e9riv\u00e9s de cellules souches pluripotentes et des cellules souches greff\u00e9es, des signaux qui permettent \u00e0 ces cellules de s'installer dans les muscles malades lors d'une transplantation syst\u00e9mique et de promouvoir la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration musculaire, la correction g\u00e9n\u00e9tique de cellules souches pluripotentes induites (iPS) sp\u00e9cifiques de patients atteints de LGMD pour \u00e9valuer le potentiel d'une th\u00e9rapie autologue \u00e0 base de cellules souches, et des \u00e9tudes d'optimisation pour l'extensibilit\u00e9, la fabrication et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des prog\u00e9niteurs myog\u00e9niques d\u00e9riv\u00e9s de cellules souches pluripotentes pour des applications th\u00e9rapeutiques.<\/p>\n

Comment vos travaux aideront-ils les patients ? Sont-ils plut\u00f4t de nature scientifique ou pourraient-ils devenir un traitement pour les LGMD ou les m\u00e9decins en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lorsque nous avons commenc\u00e9 ces \u00e9tudes en 2004, il s'agissait purement de science fondamentale, mais comme nous avons fait progresser notre recherche au fil des ans, nous pensons que nous sommes maintenant beaucoup plus pr\u00e8s de traduire cette approche en un traitement potentiel pour la LGMD et d'autres MD. Nous avons eu une r\u00e9union pr\u00e9-IND avec la FDA en 2017 pour aligner nos objectifs \u00e0 court et \u00e0 long terme.<\/p>\n

Qu'aimeriez-vous que les patients et les autres personnes int\u00e9ress\u00e9es par la LGMD sachent \u00e0 propos de la recherche (vos propres projets et le domaine en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral) ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

De nombreux obstacles et de nombreuses inconnues se dressent sur la route de la mise au point d'un nouveau traitement th\u00e9rapeutique pour les tests de d\u00e9pistage de la maladie, mais notre laboratoire et d'autres travaillent sans rel\u00e2che \u00e0 la r\u00e9alisation de cet objectif.<\/p>\n

Qu'est-ce qui vous incite \u00e0 continuer \u00e0 travailler dans ce domaine ? <\/strong><\/p>\n

La possibilit\u00e9 que notre travail puisse faire une diff\u00e9rence dans la vie des patients atteints de DM.<\/p>\n

Comment les patients peuvent-ils vous encourager et vous aider dans votre travail ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

La force et l'espoir des patients de MD nous encouragent constamment. Au fil des ans, les patients ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 notre travail par des dons de tissus et un soutien financier, et nous leur en sommes reconnaissants.<\/p>\n
